Students of Carroll Academy were able to show their best art work in Cottonlandia Museum's 3rd Biannual Youth Art Competition. This is a highly popular event featuring the best works from High School, Junior High and Home School students through 9 counties in North Mississippi. There was a wide range of media, including sculptures, ceramics, watercolors, pencil sketches, oils and more. Judging and awards were held at the exhibits opening on November 2, 2008, and will continue to be shown through December 29, 2008.

Carroll Academy was fortunate to show three clay pots from 6th grade along with three works of art from the 9th grade. Entries from 6th grade were Drew Bloodworth, Victoria Frisbie, and J.J. Storey. Entries from the 9th grade were Will Ratliff, Parker Weems, and Jayme Williams. Unfortunately, Cottonlandia would only allow three entries per grade, however, Elizabeth Downs, Kasey Gibson, and Evan Hoover also submitted work. Not to show partiality, Mrs. Jeri Moore, Carroll Academy Art Teacher, had local Greenwood artists to pick from the 9th grade entries.

Mrs. Moore had asked Mrs. Mary Courtney Wilson to accompany her for the judging and awards on November 2, 2008. There were a lot of familiar faces at the judging, along with Linda Whittington, Mississippi House of Representatives and former Carroll Academy Art Teacher, Lydia Chassaniol, now a Mississippi State Senator. Mrs. Moore said that even though Carroll's entries did not place, it was a wonderful feeling knowing that Carroll Academy was featured. She felt privileged and honored to be able to bring Carroll Academy's art work to the forefront. She looks forward to many other exhibits. Please see gallery for pictures.
